HillTop Distillery

Nestled on the hilltop in Maidens, Virginia with mighty trees, and mysterious woodland that overlook Tucker Park and the James River. Handcrafting fine Virginia spirits, requires patience, dedication, and respect for the spirit making process. Our distillery is founded on these principles, Craft has finally found its spirit.

We have always enjoyed good food and pairing the spirit to round out our meal, but never dreamed that we would be distilling flavorful spirits. After couple of extended holiday trips to Ireland and Scotland we could not shake the desire to create really good craft spirits. So, we started our journey, literally building our distillery from the ground up, we moved over 100 hundred thousand pounds of rock by hand and wheel barrels, did all plumbing, electrically and all the interior finishes. For the jobs we just could not do, we were fortunate to work with good people like Tony Bendall Sr of Capital Boiler Works and Gregory T Monnett (genius) of Enviro-Utilities Inc. We believe strongly in using Virginia suppliers as much as possible, our corn, rye and wheat are milled and grown in Virginia, our malted barley is imported from Ireland for its breath of flavor.

Native Richmonders, my husband a teacher, our son a separated Marine, and myself from the mortgage industry are worlds apart from the craft distilling. Our son, John fell in love with the misty hilltop wooded property in Maidens Virginia, overlooking the James River, where the woods and morning mist hold the inspiration and secrets that inspire our quest to make the best crafted spirits. We spent our days building the distillery but come the evening we would sip bourbons and whiskey while overlooking the glistening river in the distance, inspiring our grain recipes.
